A practical guide

Give each recipient the pages they need.

  1. Choose the source PDF and inspect its page positions.
  2. Select single pages, custom groups, a pages-per-file size or bookmark chapters.
  3. Split the file, then check the ZIP and its individual PDFs.

Try this example

For an eight-page pack, custom groups 1-2; 3-5; 6, 8 make three PDFs. Page 7 is omitted because it is not in a group; include every page you want delivered.

Before you start: The result is a ZIP. Custom groups may omit pages; bookmark mode uses top-level PDF bookmarks, not headings read from page text. Review the files before sending.

What you get

Split a PDF into pages, custom page groups, equal-sized parts or chapters from bookmarks.

Limits and important details

Bookmark mode: 10 MiB input, 200 pages, 40 chapters, 200 outline items, depth 8, 40 MiB output. Local destinations only; top-level starts must be distinct and increasing. Nested bookmarks must stay within their chapter and are remapped; bookmark styles/open state and document metadata are not preserved. Forms, links, annotations, encryption and cross-chapter outlines are unsupported. Other modes: 200 files, 500 output pages, 60 MiB, no guaranteed bookmark/form preservation. Saving invalidates signatures. ZIP is not PDF input.

Example

Custom groups 1-2; 3-5; 6, 8 create three PDFs. In bookmark mode, chapter starts on pages 3 and 6 of an eight-page PDF produce front matter 1-2 and chapters 3-5 and 6-8. This uses bookmarks, not headings recognized from page text.
